Social Security Number: it’s a number you get when you work in Spain and which gives you access to our Public Health System. You have one already, it’s on your contract. You’ll need a certificate with this nr to ask for a medical card.

Medical card: once you’ve got your SS number certificate (ICIQ gives you one, but you may be told it isn't the one they want, in that case you have to go to Av. Roma 7 [1]) and your "empadronamiento" certificate. You have to ask for this card to thus be able to go to the doctor (EU citizens can see a doctor anyway, but the card makes things easier and you’re appointed a doctor) and get medicines at the chemist's. You ask for the card at the health centre (CAP) that's nearest to your flat. You can chack your address and find CAPs here: http://www10.gencat.net/pls/catsalut/cawpk500.inici
