Social Security Number: it’s a number you get when you work in Spain and which gives you access to our Public Health System. You have one already, it’s on your contract. You’ll need a certificate with this number to ask for a medical card. Contact Marta Moya (mmoya@iciq.es) if you need assistance.

Medical card: you need your NIE card, your Social Security number certificate (ICIQ gives you one, but at the health centre you may be told that it isn't the one they want, in that case you have to go to Av. Roma 7 to ask for the certificate[1]) and your "empadronamiento" certificate. You have to ask for this card to thus be able to go to the doctor (EU citizens can see a doctor anyway, but the card makes things easier and you’re appointed a doctor) and get medicines at the chemist's. You ask for the card at the health centre (CAP) that's nearest to your flat. You can check your address and find CAPs here: http://www10.gencat.net/pls/catsalut/cawpk500.inici
