LAB PCs (Workstations) 1/ “NORMAL” Workstations:

They all have got both Windows and Linux installed, you can choose which platform to use from the main menu.
In Linux, “GNOME” is used by default
They all have got a menu called “ICIQ” with all the Chemistry programs.

1.1/ There is a Workstation which can be used by visitors:

In order to log in you need to type in the following when the GNOME prompt asks you:

User name: guest

Password: guest001

You log in with the same user name and password as above, but this workstation has no DHCP access point.

1.2/ The computer behind windows (labelled PC VLAN-1) is the only one that is on VLAN-1. In this computer you can access all ICIQ resources, such as public folders, shared units O: and Q: etc.

In order to log in you have to use both the user name and the password that you use to access your email.

2/ ”SPECIAL” Workstations:

There are two workstations with 21” screens. Both of them have got “SUSE 9.2” installed as well as the Maestro program.

To use those workstations you have to use the user name “guest” and the password "guest001"

p018 has got 3-D visualising hardware and a pair of special 3-D glasses to be used with it. Ask the system administrator if you need to use them.

PRINTERS

LEXMARK: uses recycled paper and can print on both sides of the sheet “automatically”.
hp: uses normal (white) paper, it can only print on both sides “manually”.
There is a third printer you can use, it is outside the lab (in the seminar room) and can print in colour.
HOW TO PRINT FROM THE WORKSTATIONS (LINUX):
In order to print from the shell or any other program that asks for it, you have to use the following commands plus the name of the file to be printed.

Lexmark printer: command “lexsim” (“simplex” printing) or command “lexdup” (“Duplex” printing)

    Hp printer: command “hp”.

    Colour printer: command “color”.

Graphic programs have their own printing menu or process; obviously, one has to follow the program’s instructions in order to print.
FAX-PHOTOCOPIER
There is also a fax and photocopier machine in the lab, it is between both printers. The lab’s fax number is 977 92 02 31, but if someone is faxing you something from another ICIQ lab or department, you have to tell them that our extension number is 321.
In order to fax a document, you to have to put it on the tray with the text facing up, then you press the “fax” key (on the left), you dial “0” first and then the fax number (remember to use “00” and the country’s code before the fax number if you’re faxing abroad!). Check that the number is right and press the green key “Inic.” (=Start) on your right.

If you are faxing another ICIQ lab or department, just dial their fax extension (no “0” needed).

To make photocopies, key in how many you need with the keyboard and press the green key on the right (Inic.). If you need to stop the machine or clear any values you have keyed in, just press the red key “borrar/parar” (=clear/stop)
You can also use a large photocopier machine that is on the first floor (Administration office next to the stairs and lift) if you need good quality photocopies or have to make many copies. That machine is also a scanner and from it you can send documents to email addresses (all ICIQ email addresses are saved in the memory). There is also a fax machine in that office.
