Research Plan[edit]

The Research Plan (PlaInv) defines the objectives, tools and methodology, schedule and any other means students use to produce their doctoral thesis. In this document, in the first year, students should include the following information:

  • Title of the thesis
  • Objectives
  • Methodology
  • Tools and Techniques
  • The thesis project planning
  • ORCID identifier [1]

This plan is required for first-year students and is going to be updated at any time during the doctoral program with any improvements, progress and/or modifications deemed to be necessary.

The Document of Doctoral Activities (DAD)[edit]

The Document of Doctoral Activities (DAD) is a record of all the relevant activities carried out during the doctoral thesis. For example:

  • Attendance and/or talks given at courses, conferences, symposium, seminars, etc.
  • Publications (articles, books, etc.)
  • Industrial protection and/or intellectual property rights (patents, etc.)
  • Mobility
  • Participation in projects
  • Teaching
  • Work experience in companies
  • Awards, subsidies or other prizes

The evaluation must be positive if students are to be allowed to continue on the doctoral program and enroll for the next academic year

Compulsory activities[edit]

1. Attendance and/or communications to conferences, courses, symposia, seminars, colloquia, etc. (DAD) At least 1 congress with presentation of results along the PhD

2. Attendance to lectures and multidisciplinary seminars (DAD) at least 6 lectures/year (average) to be included by the student in the DAD including title of the lecture/seminar, lecturer, date and place

3. Publications (DAD)At least 1 published or accepted paper before the thesis defense

4. Midterm interview with the Academic Committee (non academic talk, scheduled from March to June during the second year)

Optional activities[edit]

5. Training on transferable skills (DAD)

6. Project: a prospective research project before the thesis defense

7. Patents, if any (DAD)

8. Mobility (DAD) Research mobility strongly recommended, not mandatory. International stay longer than 90 days -> International Doctorate Mention

9. Participation in projects (DAD)

10. Teaching collaboration (DAD)

11. Internships in companies (DAD)

12. Prizes, grants or other awards (DAD)

Assessment[edit]

When the period for modifying the DAD and the Research Plan is over, the process of evaluation will begin:

1. The supervisor/s will issue a favorable or unfavorable report on the content added by the doctoral student.

2. On the basis of the report issued by the thesis supervisor, the Academic Committee will evaluate the work by giving one of two possible qualifications: pass or fail.

3. Finally, the School's Management Committee will ratify the result of the evaluation issued by the Academic Committee.

Students must pass if they are to continue on the program. If they do not pass, they will be re-evaluated and a new Research Plan and DAD will be drawn up.

  • If they fail to pass a second time, they will be required to withdraw from the program.
  • Students who do not upload their documentation for evaluation via the application will automatically be given a fail. In this case, they will have a second opportunity to upload their documentation; if they fail to upload their documentation a second time, they will again be given a fail and they will also be required to withdraw from the program (except in cases where the student has taken an authorized temporary leave of absence from the doctoral program).
